		<description><![CDATA[Very True! Having run many affiliate programs over the years, I&#039;ve learned that careful selection of affiliates is key to the success.  Not only does the 80/20 rule apply in regard to the results that you can obtain from affiliates, but, in fact, often the reverse is true in regard to the amount of management and monitoring that is needed.  Often the poorest performing affiliates require the most time and effort.  So my advise is to carefully develop a strategy and target affiliates that can help drive your business based on the synergy you can provide each other, manage them carefully, and build a business relationship with them. As I mentioned in the introduction, my goal was to make some general statements that site owners should consider as they audit their site.  There are clearly exceptions to many of my comments.  My point on the email is to keep their visit focused on the transaction.  If they are buying from you site, then they are not going to think of emails from you (confirming the order, for example) as spam, so that could be a good place to offer a subscription to your mailing list, for example.  And yes, there are certain products or situations that require Captcha phrases.  My point on not showing out-of-stock items, is one of probability.  If they like what they see on your site, but can&#039;t buy it, they will go elsewhere.  If they don&#039;t see that particular item, there&#039;s a good chance that they will see something else that they like.  Again, it depends what you are selling.  There&#039;s clearly a lot to discuss on this, and a reason that we all provide custom sites and advice depending on the product and market.   Best regards,  Ed]]></description>
